Exploitation

As for the last couple of days I have been showing other students my photography in hopes to see which photos would be best to incorporate into my portfolio.

One of my classmates commented that this specific photo was exploitative of the subject. She also added that most photography professors would crucify you if you took pictures of the homeless.

I question is how on earth is this exploitative? I did not sell this photo to anyone.

I feel in no way that I am belittling this woman by taking her photo. I merely thought she was an interesting subject. As for the photo, it is a lifestyle photo. It portrayes reality and in no means exploits her.

as for utilizing her, well her photo would be useful in my portfolio.. I'm a little confused by her comment.

I know as a photograph I have the power to make a picture, but I just don't see how this could be seen as an exploitative photo.
