Console

In my print “Console,” I used a variety of symbolism to amplify the concept of being overweight and how that impacts both society’s view of an individual and causes insecurities. The use of color in this print is meant to convey anger along with a shroud of calmness as the large beauties slip away to a place that is more accepting. I used tribal-like marks as a border to symbolize how many tribal civilizations interpreted large women as being symbols of fertility and prosperity. The eyes are symbolic of how society perceives larger woman, eating them with their eyes, criticizing every inch of their body. The mouth is both symbolic of verbal abuse and the abuse of food. The central glowing figures are large women consoling each other. The large women are spilling out over their intended confinement of staring eyes and whispers to regain their place as symbols of fertility and prosperity.
